Jim gives speeches about the economy--where it is now and where it's going.  He talks about both the U.S. economy and the global economy.  There are quite a few economists who do this, but very few who actually make it an educational AND entertaining experience for their audience.  Jim's informal, dynamic style keeps people interested, whether they are highly experienced CEOs and top management teams or new employees.  Everyone can understand his position and everyone can appreciate his prodigious command of historical trends, facts and figures.

More importantly, Dr. Smith's forecasts are generally accurate.  He forecast the most recent recession about four years before it happened (he missed the actual date by about a year--no one seemed to predict the events of September 11, 2001), he forecast the end of the recession (November, 2001) long before the National Bureau of Economic Research actually announced it, and we’re waiting to see how his forecast for a recession in 2007 plays out.

Companies and associations bring Jim in to speak to their members or customers whenever it is likely that information about the economic environment they are operating in will be helpful to them.  And, once he is invited, he is often asked to return year after year to provide his latest insights.
